Ricky Ponting declined the BCCI’s offer to coach Team India. Will Rahul Dravid take Ravi Shastri’s place?
Ravi Shastri’s tenure as India’s head cricket coach expires after the Twenty20 World Cup. All fans are waiting for an official announcement to know who will become a successor of Shastri. According to several reports, former Test cricket stalwart Rahul Dravid will take Shastri’s place.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed that the Indian cricket board considered Anil Kumble and VVS Laxman for this role. Some rumors say that Australian legend Ricky Ponting’s name appeared in this information space. However, the Times of India’s report confirmed that Ponting rejected the offer for an unknown reason. BCCI is likely to call Dravid a favorite in this competition.
Dravid takes credit for consistently supplying India with young talent by leading the National Cricket Academy. He has a significant influence on the team spirit of his trainees and spent time in Dubai during the IPL.
India will begin its T20 World Cup campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan on October 24 in Dubai. The tournament would take place in India, but the organizers decided to move it to the United Arab Emirates and Oman due to the COVID situation.
The Indian team has also made a change to its roster in the run-up to the tournament. Shardul Thakur will join the 15-man roster making Axar Patel a reserve player.
