Indian women football team will play against two top tier-1 Swedish teams
Lately, the Indian women’s team defeated Chinese Taipei on its international tour. The next step is to face two Swedish teams later this month. The matches will be part of the preparations for next year’s Asian Cup.
The Indian women’s team has already played four international friendlies against the UAE (4-1), Tunisia (0-1), Bahrain (5-0), and Chinese Taipei (1-0) in the past few weeks in Dubai and Manama. In Sweden, the team will play against two tier-1 clubs Hammarby IF (October 20th) and Djurgarden IF (October 23th). India’s head coach Thomas Dennerby previously led both clubs.
The best match among them was the victory over Chinese Taipei, ranked 40th. The worst game for the Indian team, ranked 57th, was a loss to Tunisia, ranked 77th in the FIFA rankings.
Dennerby talked about the level of the opponents the Indian women’s team will face. Both Hammarby and Djurgarden are in Sweden’s top division. Dennerby said that Djurgarden is still a high-level team, and it will be a stiff challenge to defeat them.
The Indian trainer emphasized the work ethic of his players. They are currently training together for about two months since camp in Jamshedpur: “They want to learn, and they work very hard, be it in the gym or on the field. Whatever task we set for them, they try to do their best. The most important thing is that the girls understand that they are outstanding footballers. That helps them improve their self-confidence”.
